A grid is scaffolding, not a drawing. It exists to stop you guessing where the lines go so you can spend your attention on the character.

These are measured, not eyeballed

The depth lines on the one-point grids are placed with the diagonal vanishing point method, so each band is one real square of floor. That means you can count in them — floor tiles, fence posts, ceiling beams, road markings. Checked against the actual perspective model, the recession is accurate to under half a per cent.

The two- and three-point grids put their vanishing points well off the canvas, because that is what stops boxes shearing. Most packs put them too close together and everything looks distorted.
